Traditional
Kava Bowls and these other pieces are handcarved from one piece of local dense
hardwood called IFILELE so are heavy. The multi-legged Kava Tanoa is unique
to Samoa and used in the special kava ceremonies. The handcarved traditional
designs on these pieces are very detailed (this carved design could be slightly
different each time a tanoa is made). Each bowl and platter here is unique.
The different designs are usually made in a couple of standard sizes or can
be made to order in a different size than listed. The bowl diameter measurement
is the outside diameter from side to side. More photos of each sample design
(except for the Small Bowls at the bottom) are on separate pages and can be
seen by clicking the number below the photo.
