Sale Kava Bowl No. 4 - This
graceful Traditional, Deep-Sided, 18" Multi-legged Kava Tanoa/Bowl
has 19 legs and was handcarved from one piece of very dense hardwood (IFILELE
tree wood) so is quite heavy. Large pieces of this quality of wood are becoming
increasingly hard to get as the trees are very slow growing. It has the traditional
straight sides and deep bowl. This type of many-legged kava tanoa is unique
to the Country of Samoa and is much harder and more time-consuming to produce.
There are skillfully carved traditional design patterns on the top rim and
around the sides. It has a lovely grain to the wood on the inside of the bowl
and has the dark luster patina from being buryed it in mud for a considerable
time before the design was carved into it after which it was polished with
a pig's tooth. This 19-leg Bowl measures 18" wide and 7" high.

Kava Bowl No. 5 - This is a
Unique Handcarved Hardwood 16" Bent-Leg Kava Tanoa/Bowl made from
one piece of very dense local hardwood (IFILELE tree wood) so is heavy in weight.
Large pieces of this Ifilele wood are becoming increasingly hard to get as the
trees are very slow growing. The legs are the unique bent leg type which is
more difficult to carve. This tanoa has 4 carved handles which are wrapped with
handbraided 3-strand traditional sennet which is the pounded fiber of the coconut
husk. It has the traditional, dark luster patina from burying it in mud for
a considerable time and then polishing it with a pig's tooth.The carved designs
around the top rim and sides are very wide and detailed. It has a lovely grain
to the wood on the inside of the bowl. This Bowl measures 16" wide.

a Sea Turtle. It was handcarved from one piece of very dense local hardwood
(IFILELE tree wood) so is heavy in weight.The carved designs are very detailed.

time and then polishing it with a pig's tooth. Has a lovely grain to the wood
on the inside of the bowl. This turtle bowl measures 14" x 12".
